Steampunk in Oz

I went to see "Wicked!" in SF with [info]hrf, [info]scotica, and [info]duchessletitia this evening. I knew nothing about the play beyond the very basics, and I was very pleased with how it went. I won't give anything away because of spoilers, but it was very clever. The costuming and sets had a very steampunk flavor, with actual gears appearing here and there. I recommend seeing it for those of you who haven't made it yet.

The book is great too. I saw Wicked on its opening night, a few years ago. The curtain was about an hour late, the play ran long and it was a hot night. We spent a lot of time on the fire escape. Seemed it needed about an hour cut out. I am eager to see it in its present incarnation.

I'm supposed to see it in July. I know, because I have the soundtrack, that it's a different experience than the book, but I think both versions are enjoyable.

I second the recommendation whole heartedly! I really enjoyed it, too! (Thanks, [info]klwilliams for organizing it!) Without giving anything away, I will add that the most repeated (delighted) comment by our party was "That explains so much!"

My tickets are for June 21, I can hardly wait. I read the book and liked it. It's certainly not the kids' version! I'm told they gentled down the play in comparison to the book. Did you think so?
